Textile waste imposes significant economic and environmental burdens. In 2024, the world discarded enough clothing alone to fill more than 200 Olympic stadiums, approximately 120 metric tons – with only 12% being reused, less than 1% recycled into new fibers and the rest getting incinerated or buried in landfills (some taking up to 200+ years to decompose). Annually, $150 billion in raw materials value is lost – resources that are extracted, processed, and then quickly discarded. The textile sector is estimated to be responsible for 20% of global clean water pollution – the third largest source of water degradation and land use in 2020. “Fast-fashion”, which has resulted in mass-production of synthetic textiles, contributes to the annual accumulation of half a million tons of microplastics on the ocean floor – as washing a single load of polyester clothing can discard 700,000 microplastic fibers (that end up in the food chain as well). It is my intention to help awaken, inspire and provide consumers with products that are not only “environmentally responsible”, but are also unique and will be treasured for many years …
